The Kitchen Moves from a September to an August Release Date
There are plenty of movies and TV shows coming out that are based on comic books but have nothing to do with superheroes. One of those comics making its way to the big screen is the DC/Vertigo comic called The Kitchen about the wives of a bunch of members of the Irish mob who take over when their husbands go to prison. If that sounds a lot like the underappreciated Widows from last year you would be correct. No one went to go see that movie so now we have to wonder if anyone is going to see this one too.
Warner Bros. might be wondering the same thing. According to Deadline they have decided to shift the release date for The Kitchen by about six weeks. The release date has been moved from September 20th to August 9th. That means a whole lot more competition. On the 9th Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark and Artemis Fowl are both set to be released and the weekend before has Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, Dora the Explorer, and [maybe] The New Mutants. To find a place in a very cramp box office like that The Kitchen is going to need some serious buzz.
The wives of New York gangsters in Hell's Kitchen in the 1970s continue to operate their husbands' rackets after they're locked up in prison.
The Kitche, directed by Andrra Berloff, stars Melissa McCarthy, Elisabeth Moss, Tiffany Haddish, Domhnall Gleeson, James Badge Dale, and Brian d'Arcy James. It will be released on August 9th.
