First Trailer for Kristen Stewart, Chloë Sevigny Thriller 'Lizzie' Hits, With an Axe
The first trailer for the upcoming new retelling of the infamous Borden family murders (by axe) Lizzie is here, and we've got to say, it certainly looks interesting.
Chloë Sevigny is Lizzie Borden, and Kristen Stewart is the Borden family's new housemaid who has a relationship with Lizze, and you can see from the trailer the tone the film will be taking:
This Craig William Macneill-directed feature is a long time in the works passion project of Savigny, but this end result isn't the one she had in mind. In an interview with HuffPo before the film's bow during Sundance, Savigny said:
"So much has been said [about Borden]. But I think that we just really wanted to focus on how she went about finding [her freedom] and how important that was to her and what that meant to her. Whether it was through the relationship with [her maid] or ultimately killing her parents for money ― because money equaled freedom then. It still does. I wanted it to be this rousing, smash-the-patriarchy piece."
It turns out that HBO was originally going to release Savigny's version, but Lifetime beat them to the punch with their Christina Ricci-starring version in 2014.
Oh, her favorite part of the film? As you might have guessed it, the brutal murder of Borden's patriarch.
"I love the whole murder sequence. You almost want her to have this cathartic moment. It's sexual."
Lizzie is set to release on September 14th 2018.
