Will Ferrell And Adam McKay To Bring Manimal To Theaters
Let me start by admitting I watched this show when I was a kid and kind of liked it… Now, Hollywood Reporter says that Will Ferrell and his comedy partner Adam McKay have signed on to produce Sony's live action/animated hybrid adaptation of the 80's TV show Manimal.
The critically panned series Manimal followed Dr. Jonathan Chase, a wealthy doctor with a mysterious past who morphed into animals in order to help the police fight crime. Simon MacCorkindale and Melody Anderson were the stars. It lasted only 8 episodes but built a cult following. Series creator Glen A. Larson brought Chase / MacCorkindale back in the 90's in a crossover with the series Night Man based on the Malibu Comics character.
McKay had this to say about the project: "Like The Catcher in the Rye or The Sound and the Fury, Manimal has always been one of those elusive projects every producer dreams of taking to the silver screen. I know the movie will be funny and entertaining but will it be the first film to win a Pulitzer? We'll just have to see."
The script is being written by Key & Peele executive producers Jay Martel and Ian Roberts.
