Writer Of Bride Of Frankenstein Talks About Her Place In The Universal Monster Universe
Out of all the shared universe announcements going on right now, I think I'm most excited for Universal's Monsters universe. The horror franchise will bring together all of the classic monsters that Universal made popular all those decades ago.
One such character will be Bride of Frankenstein, who is being revived for the universe. The script is written by David Koepp and he recently spoke to Collider about it. He seemed really enthusiastic about it and its themes too. He said:
It's one of my favorite scripts I've written in years because if you reimagine the Frankenstein story, it gets into so many issues of men trying to feel dominant over women. To create someone who then says, 'You don't own me,' it becomes a tale of liberation.
That is a strong place to bring the character, but one I think makes sense too.
He also added that each of the monster movies will have their own feel, and when talking about how Bride will differ, he said:
In ours, the Bride is essentially a sympathetic figure. This tragic, hunted figure. And obviously the Mummy is a very bad entity that must be stopped. That's not us. The troublemakers are the ones who would try to control her.
I really can't wait to see how this all comes together. There is room for a mega-horror franchise with a lot of resources behind it, and I can't wait.
