The Looming Tower Trailer: Jeff Daniels Drama Shows CIA, FBI Divide
Based on Lawrence Wright's Pulitzer Prize-winning book The Looming Tower: Al-Qaeda and the Road to 9/11, Hulu's new dramatic series The Looming Tower focuses on the rivalry and distrust between the CIA and FBI throughout the '90s that may have laid the groundwork for the 9/11 terrorist attack. With the limited series set to bow next month, Hulu has released the official trailer for a series that examines how it was a lack of communication and not a lack of solid intelligence that stifled law enforcement's ability to predict and stop the attack.

Based on the Pulitzer-Prize winning book, The Looming Tower traces the rising threat of Osama Bin Laden and Al-Qaeda in the late 1990s and how the rivalry between the FBI and CIA during that time may have inadvertently set the path for the tragedy of 9/11. The series follows members of the I-49 Squad in New York and Alec Station in Washington, D.C., the counter-terrorism divisions of the FBI and CIA, respectively, as they travel the world fighting for ownership of information while seemingly working toward the same goal – trying to prevent an imminent attack on U.S. soil.
Jeff Daniels as John O'Neill, the determined, at times bull-headed chief of the New York FBI's Counter-Terrorism unit. He is rightly convinced that the U.S. has been targeted for attack by Al-Qaeda but faces deliberately insufficient cooperation from other organs of the federal government, particularly from his counterpart at the frequently antagonistic CIA. Ali Soufan (Tahar Rahim) is a young FBI agent on O'Neill's anti-terrorism squad who quickly ascends to O'Neill's protégé due to his brilliance, as well as his fluency in Arabic and Islam.
The Looming Tower stars Daniels, Rahim, Wrenn Schmidt (Diane Marsh), Bill Camp (Robert Chesney), Louis Cancelmi (Vince Stuart), Virginia Kull (Kathy Shaughnessy), Ella Rae Peck (Heather), Sullivan Jones (Floyd Bennet), Michael Stuhlbarg (Richard Clarke) and Peter Sarsgaard (Martin Schmidt).
The Looming Tower premieres on Hulu on February 28th.
