Captain Picard 'Star Trek' Series Coming in 2019
Fans of Star Trek: The Next Generation didn't know quite how to react when news came out of Star Trek: Las Vegas that Starfleet Captain Jean Luc Picard would be returning to the franchise.
Sir Patrick Stewart himself is who made the announcement while on stage during CREATION's annual STLV, but reception for the most part was positive.
A writer's room was soon assembled, with Kirsten Beyer, Michael Chabon, Akiva Goldsman, Diandra Pendleton-Thompson, and James Duff, hard at work on possible stories and scripts. That was sort of the last update we had about the show, though.
David Nevins, chief creative officer for CBS Corp., as well as chairman and CEO of Showtime Networks Inc., spoke about the future of CBS, as well as dropping a hint of when we're going to see the Picard series:
"Star Trek Discovery season two is in a great place. And there is huge anticipation for Picard. That will [premiere] at the end of the year. And we're doing these Star Trek short films in between."
This is exciting, and we're hopeful the series is at the very least, entertaining.
Star Trek: Discovery returns to CBS ALL ACCESS for season 2 on January 17th 2019.
