Cardcaptor Sakura, Digimon, Ranma 1/2 and More: My Anime Comfort Food

I am a big enthusiast of the 90's anime I grew up with. I re-watch them like crazy, especially now that I have been working from home. While I look for new anime to watch, I still keep running back to my comfort shows in order to keep a better mind-set and sometimes escape reality when it becomes too much. It has become a little race to find ones that can help in providing comfort, laugh, and still leave me with a peaceful mind no matter how crazy or long the workday gets. Having grown up in the Dominican Republic I am totally biased toward the Latin American-Spanish translations but if I cannot find them, then Japanese it is. Some day I might go more into detail on why but in general, I am not often a fan of English dubs with only a handful of recent anime able to pull off decent English dubbing. I do wish I had more access to some other anime I loved as a teenager, so I could rewatch all of it in order like Saber Marionette, Vandread, Patlabor, Shaman King, Sorcerer Stabber Orphen. Here's a look at some of my favorites that have been on a loop since March.

Cardcaptor Sakura: How could I not start with this? Cardcaptor Sakura has been my biggest comfort since I was in elementary/middle school. This anime has the power of soothing me and making me feel like everything will be alright. I really wish Netflix would get the Latin American dub as it really makes me so happy whenever I am able to find it, and even happier it was not censored. This show always leaves me with a pleasant vibe, the best to leave playing if you want to stay in a good mood.

Digimon: Another one I could not leave behind. I really love the first and second seasons; however Tri, Tamers, and Frontier are close seconds. Though nothing will ever compare to the way the Brave Heart song makes me feel when it starts playing: invincible.

Ranma 1/2: This was a favorite growing up and the beginning of very uncomfortable conversations with my parents as it was not censored in DR. Despite being silly and hysterical, I always loved how strongly it always portrayed women.

Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood: Need I say more other than the title? This anime is simply exquisite from animation to writing. I love it from beginning to end and it is one of the strongest storylines without dragging. It is another show I can rewatch over and over without tiring.

Sailor Moon: This one is trickier for me. First, only the original, not Crystal. I cannot stand the poor quality of the animation, but I will not go into this further because I just get angry, honestly. Despite my constant love/hate cycle with Usagi crybaby-ness and Mamoru's cheesy one-liners, Sailor Moon was very important to me growing up as it was another anime that had very powerful depictions of women. Like I could have done without Tuxedo Mask, they really did not need him. It is also another show that has a very pleasant vibe for me.

Akihabara Dennou Gumi: I guess this was a little bit darker, and I like the follow-up film better than I like the show, but I can always put it on and leave it in the background. Once again, magical girls save the world. It was short, but the animation was pretty good.
