David Tennant, Michael Sheen Reunite for BBC One Comedy Staged
David Tennant (Doctor Who) and Michael Sheen (Prodigal Son) are following up their coronavirus-themed return to the world of Good Omens with another thematic trip into social distancing and self-isolating. The BBC announced on Friday that the duo is set for new home lockdown comedy Staged, airing on BBC One from Infinity Hill and GCB Films. In the series, Tennant and Sheen are members of a cast who find themselves furloughed when their West End production is shuttered. Considered the cream of the crop of British acting talent, the cast will attempt their best to keep rehearsals on track but it won't be easy.
Based on an original idea by Simon Evans and Phin Glynn, and written and directed by Evans, Staged also stars Georgia Tennant, Lucy Eaton, and Anna Lundberg. Nina Sosanya and a number of other, as-yet-unconfirmed guest stars are set for the series, which is set to premiere on BBC One starting June 2020 (and available as a box set on BBC iPlayer after airing). The series production team continues to follow the latest government guidelines on Covid-19 to ensure that the series is made safely and responsibly. A combination of self-shooting and video conferencing technology is being used to keep in accordance with the latest protocols.
For Charlotte Moore, Director BBC Content, the series is another opportunity to give viewers quality programming combined with something new and innovative: "It's vital that the BBC provides moments of light relief and this mischievous idea shows what great sports Michael and David are in sending themselves up". Produced by Infinity Hill and GCB Films production for BBC One, Staged was commissioned by Moore. Phinn Glynn, Victor Glynn, and Georgia Tennant produce, with David Tennant and Sheen serving as executive producers of the series. Infinity Hill's Axel Kuschevatzky and Cindy Teperman, and GCB's Geoff Iles also executive produce.
