"Letterkenny" Becomes Hulu Original, Boomtown?

This is great news for just about anyone who loves comedy, except those degens from up-country. In a move that I appreciates, Hulu has signed the Canadian comedy series Letterkenny as one of the streaming platform's original series, which means we can get our fix just a little bit easier.

The series has already been available on Hulu, but the new deal means the upcoming seventh season will be available in the States as they land in Canada, so we can get us some Puppers before pirate sites spoil everything for us.

The comedy is set in the fictional, rural community of Letterkenny, where the Hicks, led by Wayne (Jared Keeso), Katy (Michelle Mylett),Daryl (Nathan Dales), and Squirely Dan (K. Trevor Wilson) defend their tiny town against nefarious, no-good degens from up-country.

Well, that's sort of what they do. Most of the time, they just sit around Wayne and Katy's produce stand, drinking beer, and ruining the schemes of the local Goth meth-heads, Stewart (Tyler Johnston), and Roald (Evan Stern).

There's also a couple of genius-level hockey players, Jonesy (Dylan Playfair) and Reilly (Andrew Herr), who just want to get that "W ferda boys" before their Coach (Mark Forward) kicks another trash can.

Series co-creator, head writer, and showrunner Keeso modeled the series after the small Canadian town he grew up in, and it's about as close to a snap-shot of rural Canadian life as one can get.

Letterkenny also shares a gentle sweet natured quality with fellow Canadian import Schitt's Creek. You might even see actors from both shows showing up from time to time.

In season seven, the Hicks start an agricultural call-in show. My only real hope here is that Squirely Dan gets to dominate the mike, because that's what I appreciates about him.

"We know from the current success of our Original comedy series' Ramy, Shrill and Pen15 that our subscribers are looking for hilarious, unique and engaging programming. Letterkenny checks all of these boxes and then some.  Since we first premiered season one last summer, the fan-following and conversation around the series has gained exciting momentum. We're proud to have the show join the Hulu family."

-Hulu's Senior Vice President of Originals Craig Erwich.

The new deal with Hulu makes the streaming service the official distribution hub for Letterkenny outside of Canada. The new season of Letterkenny will start in October.

In the mean time, you can catch Letterkenny Live! as it hits the U.S., with dates set for New York, Chicago, and Minneapolis.
