When last we saw the intrepid heroes of ABC's Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., the planet Earth was on a collision course with disaster. Divided between the land, the air, and space, the team is disconnected and in danger of losing everything. As the screen faded to black at the end of last week's "Collision Course (Part I)," half of the team found themselves hurtling towards certain death. Unfortunately, the other half fared little better, at the mercy of multiple mass murderers. Forget saving the day, as we head into Friday's "Collision Course (Part II)," the Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. are just trying to survive the day. MAJOR SPOILER snowflakes ahead…
Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 6, episode 9 "Collision Course (Part II)": No time for the team to play catch-up, there's a planet to save.
In the air, Sarge (Clark Gregg) has used a spray-paint portal to get himself on board the Zephyr, unbeknownst to Mack (Henry Simmons) and the team. From the images released by ABC (throughout this article) and the preview shown at the end of last week's episode, Sarge wants to use the Zephyr to go after Izel (Karolina Wydra). Mack, Yo-Yo (Natalia Cordova-Buckley), and the rest of the S.H.I.E.L.D. team will likely have something to say about that. Unfortunately, things may end badly for the un-named random S.H.I.E.L.D. agent that gets shot in the preview. Agents are the new "redshirts," apparently.
Aboard Sarge's tractor trailer, Deke (Jeff Ward), Daisy (Chloe Bennet), May (Ming-Na Wen), and Snowflake (Brooke Williams) are trapped with a giant bomb. For some reason, they are letting Deke defuse the bomb. You would think that Daisy or May would have been trained in explosives by S.H.I.E.L.D., whereas Deke is more of a tech guy, but who needs logic. In the preview, Daisy says the bomb is an "atom bomb," which is doubtful, but maybe she is talking destructive power? Given the fact that the bomb has a 200 mile blast radius, just jumping off of the truck isn't going to help any of them. We see a shot of the truck crashing into the Shrike shard tower in the preview video, so the truck itself is definitely doomed. The question is, how do the Agents, Deke, Snowflake, and the bomb escape?
Meanwhile, it appears things are coming to a head aboard the Lazy Comet. Images of FitzSimmons (Iain De Caestecker, Elizabeth Henstridge) holding up their hands in front of Izel, with her Shrike zombie minions behind her, spells trouble for the couple. They were bound to notice the entire crew is possessed eventually. With Sarge headed for the Comet in the Zephyr, the geniuses need to establish communications quickly. The trick will be saving themselves without supporting the efforts of the Shrike apocalypse.
Underlying everything is the main question of the season:
Who is Sarge and why does he have the same DNA as Coulson?
The answer to that question might provide insight into the animosity between Coulson and Izel, and the whole point of the Shrike attack. While I hope that we get some answers this week, I doubt that Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. is going to spill all of its secrets with a third of the season still left to air. Maybe the better question is…
Who will survive to find the answers?
Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. "Collision Course (Part II)" airs Friday, July 12 at 8 p.m. on ABC.
