Netflix to Premiere a Series of 15-Minute Stand-Up Specials
Maybe it's a sign of the way technology has given us a shorter attention span, or maybe it's… what was I talking about? Oh, right. Comedy specials used to be an hour. Then they became a half hour, and now, Netflix is set to premiere a series of 15-minute stand-up specials focusing on some of the up-and-coming comics of 2018.
The specials will be filmed next month in Atlanta's historic Terminal West venue with each comedian doing a 15-minute solo set. The series has yet to get a title nor a premiere date.
Featured comedians will be: Aisling Bea, Michelle Buteau, Tim Dillon, JR De Guzman, Sabrina Jalees, Janelle James, Sam Jay, Josh Johnson, Ian Karmel, Jak Knight, Matteo Lane, Max Silvestri, Taylor Tomlinson, Phil Wang, Emma Willmann, and Kate Willett.
This comes as part of Netflix's push to be the new home of stand-up comedy. In 2017 they premiered new stand-up specials featuring A-listers: Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle, Jerry Seinfeld, and Ricky Gervais. They've also locked in the rights to Gervais' next stand-up special. The streaming service also debuted a half-hour series called The Standups, which were half-hour specials featuring: Dan Soder, Nate Bargatze, Nikki Glaser, Beth Stelling, Deon Cole and Fortune Feimster.
