Marvel's Agents of SHIELD Season 5: What About Coulson's Promise to Ghost Rider?

With the new season of Marvel's Agents of SHIELD so drastically different than before, some of the big questions from last year seem to have gotten put on the shelf. But TVLine still seems to be asking them. The fans loved seeing Gabriel Luna as Robbie Reyes, AKA Ghost Rider. When I saw Luna around Halloween, he was mum on returning to the series but said he would jump at the chance. And since there is still the issue of what Phil Coulson promised Ghost Rider at the end of season four to resolve, I think the odds are we'll get him back soon.

Clark Gregg, who plays Coulson, told Michael Ausiello:

"The deal he made with Ghost Rider at the end of Season 4, that debt will come due at some point."

Another fan favorite thing that started way back in season one is the relationship between Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) and Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker). Though they started out as the nerdy lab techs, the characters have both grown as agents and as a couple. But every time they get close to being happy, fate comes along and screws it up for them. It started with them dropped into the ocean by Grant Ward (Brett Dalton) and Fitz confessing his love then saving their lives only to have him suffer brain damage. He got past that. He finally asks her out only to have her sucked across space to an alien planet. Then he was replaced by an LMD and now they are separated by close to 100 years. Somebody really doesn't want them together.

Henstridge talked about the couple and where they are now:

"We were kind of the comic relief and now I feel like we're the tragic relief, where we have so many crying scenes now. I just feel like we keep having so much tragedy between us. It is a Whedon show, you know?"

Marvel's Agents of SHIELD airs Fridays a 9 p.m. ET on ABC
