'Stargate SG-1', 'Godfather Pt 2' Actor Carmen Argenziano Passes at 75

Carmen Argenziano, whose career spans five decades and best known for his role as Selmak and Jacob Carter in Stargate SG-1, died at the age of 75 on February 10th 2019.

With over 200 credits to his name, Argenziano's expansive filmography includes a slew of films, TV and shorts. Chances are if you followed TV since the '70s, you likely saw him at some point appearing in shows.

Argenziano had recurring roles in Police Story, L.A. Law, Melrose Place, CSI: NY, House, and The Young and the Restless. His notable film roles include The Godfather: Part 2 (1974), The Accused (1988) and Stand and Deliver (1988).

His most memorable role was as Jacob on SG-1 as a military father to Sam (Amanda Tapping). Through 25 episodes, Jacob went through numerous changes becoming more important throughout the show's run. Initially being distant, he and his daughter bonded after his terminal cancer diagnosis, Jacob volunteered to be host to the To'kra Selmak, who helped treat his cancer.

After joining with Selmak, Jacob became a valuable ally against Goa'uld and the Replicators while becoming the liaison between the Tok'ra and earth. Following Argenziano's passing, tributes started pouring in on Twitter from former cast mates and friends.

Tony Amendola, who played Bra'tac, tweeted, "Lost a true gentleman yesterday. A very good actor but an even better person. Spent a lot of time working together on #stargatesg1 and he never failed to make me laugh. Sad news. #rip Carmen Argenziano"

Kieran Dickson, Editor for the Stargate Command digital media platform tweeted, "My thoughts go out to the family and loved ones of Carmen Argenziano. He gave us all so many wonderful moments on screen and will forever be missed by the #Stargate family. May he Rest In Peace. pic.twitter.com/NJVPZs12KE"

The Stargate Command tweeted, "Stargate Command mourns with all of fandom today at the loss of Carmen Argenziano. He represented the best of humanity with his generosity, grace and kindness. We are devastated by his loss and will have more to say soon."

Teryl Rothery, who played Dr. Janet Fraiser on Stargate SG-1, tweeted, "I am so sad to hear that Carmen Argenziano passed away. He was such a wonderful man, wonderful actor and a joy to work with. I have so many fond memories. Especially dancing with him in Paris. You will be missed. 🙏"
