Superman: Gunn Honors Corenswet/Brosnahan Screen Test: "Like Magic"

Superman writer/director James Gunn is celebrating the one-year anniversary of David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan's screen test together.

Yesterday, it was all about Superman writer/director James Gunn and actress Isabela Merced honoring Hawkgirl on a very important anniversary – especially considering Merced is playing the winged hero in the upcoming DC Studios feature film. But today, it's about Gunn offering some social media love to the stars of the film – David Corenswet (Superman/Clark Kent) and Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane) – on the anniversary of when the two screen-tested for their roles, an experience that Gunn describes as being "like magic."

"One year ago today, David and Rachel screen-tested for Clark and Lois. When they first read together, it was like magic," Gunn shared in a post on Threads earlier today. 'What a wonderful year it's been with two of the most extraordinary, vibrant, and meticulous actors I've ever had the opportunity to work with. I can't wait for you to see them on screen in just a little over a year."

"Overjoyed to be announcing the start of principal photography on SUPERMAN today, February 29, which just so happens to be – coincidentally and unplanned – Superman's birthday," Gunn wrote as the caption to his post presenting the famous "S" on his Superman's costume, before confirming the change in the film's title. "When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film Superman: Legacy. By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was SUPERMAN. Making our way to you July 2025."

He didn't understand me as a kid, but he supported my love of comics and my love of film, and I wouldn't be making this movie now without him. It has been a long road to this point. Then a bit less than a year ago, I saw a way in, in many ways, centering around Superman's heritage – how both his aristocratic Kryptonian parents and his Kansas farmer parents inform who he is and the choices he makes."
