The Conjuring Series Coming To Max Streaming Service
The Conjuring is moving to television, as a streaming series is set to come to the newly named Max. But will James Wan be involved?
The Conjuring will be getting a new drama series on the newly minted streaming service Max, the combined services formally known as HBO Max and Discovery+. There are two interesting notes here: series producer Peter Safran will executive produce the series, while series creator and producer James Wan is "in talks" to executive produce as well. Why in talks, you ask? Well, that is because he is currently working on a major merger between his Atomic Monster label and Blumhouse, and they are set up at Universal. We speculated in the past what that could mean for Wan's involvement with The Conjuring universe back in January, and it looks like that future is still up in the air. Atomic Monster will still produce, as well as The Safran Company. The series will "continue the story established in the feature films."
The Conjuring Was Always Going To Continue, With Or Without Wan
The franchise has combined to gross over $2 billion at the box office, making it one of the most successful franchises, period, let alone in the genre of horror. To think that WB would just say goodbye to one of their biggest box office franchises, just because Wan may not be there, would be foolish. Especially since the last two years have proven that horror films are the safest bet in Hollywood. To be honest, a TV show is a perfect place to continue The Conjuring franchise, as you don't need a ton of involvement from the franchise players already established, and you can mint new characters and monsters for their own adventures pretty easily. The big question is this: how much will we see the likes of Annabelle, the Nun, and other established characters from that universe?
Expect way more on this as we learn it.
