The Sandman Previews Puck, Destruction; Heinberg on Sloane, Gleeson

Along with new looks at Destruction and Puck, Allan Heinberg offers insights into The Sandman Season 2 stars Barry Sloane and Jack Gleeson.

Earlier this week, we not only learned the episode titles and release schedule for the second and final season of Allan Heinberg and David S. Goyer's Tom Sturridge (Dream) and Kirby (Death)-starring live-action adaptation of Neil Gaiman's The Sandman, but we also learned that the final run will include a bonus twelft episode adapting "Death: The High Cost of Living" (more on all of that in a minute). Now, we have two new images to pass along, spotlighting Barry Sloane's Destruction (aka, the Prodigal) and Jack Gleeson's Puck. Here's a look at what Heinberg had to share about the actors:

Heinberg on Gleeson: "He brings so much depth to that part. He brings sexiness to it and mischief and psychology and heart. I have a tendency to write to the actors playing these parts, and I think our Puck is a very different Puck from the comics, but also from the Puck that I would've written for any other actor."

Heinberg on Sloane's Approach to Destruction: "He has such a lightness of touch, and he's such a loving human. That's really what we were looking for in casting this role. You think of Destruction, especially as he's presented in the comics during The Song of Orpheus story, as the ultimate destroyer of worlds. His story in the comic, and in our show as well, is actually a soul that's in conflict. He wants to create, he doesn't want to destroy. So you need an actor who is so full of love and so full of joy and yet looks like the archetypal soldier."

A six-episode Volume 1 will be released on July 3rd, and a five-episode Volume 2 will be released on July 24th – and then, a bonus episode drops on July 31st that adapts Death: The High Cost of Living. As you're about to see, the final run will adapt storylines from Season of Mists, Brief Lives, The Kindly Ones, and The Sandman: Overture, collections, along with beloved single-issue stories such as "Tales in the Sand," "A Midsummer Night's Dream," "The Song of Orpheus," "Thermidor," and "The Tempest," among others. Here's a look at how the final season release schedule will work, along with a new image gallery:
