The Trigan Empire to Be a TV Show From Rebellion?

Bleeding Cool recently covered the news that Rebellion were to republish the painted comic book sci-fi fantasy The Trigan Empire that ran in Look & Learn comic magazine in the UK for almost thirty years and totally earned the description of epic. It was a long-running story of an empire that spread across an alien planet that mirrored our own history in many ways, but with sci-fi and fantasy elements. Written by Mike Butterworth and painted by Don Lawrence, it looked like this.

At one point it was planned to have been adapted into a big Hollywood movie, but the scale was considered too much to attempt at the time – late seventies, early eighties. Movie rights for a feature film based on the strip were optioned in 2009, and in 2011 it was revealed that a script existed and that the film's producers were holding meetings in England to find a director.

But now Rebellion have purchased all the rights. And Bleeding Cool understands from well-connected sources that Rebellion, who have recently built their own production studios and stages for the much hyped Mega City One TV project, are also putting The Trigan Empire into production.

More as we hear it. But if you are a studi executive looking for something to fill a Game Of Thrones gap in your life/schedule, I couldn't conceive of anything better.
