Martin Conaghan Resigns From Insomnia Publications (UPDATED)
UPDATE: I understand that Insomnia editor Matt Gibbs has now also resigned.
Best known to Bleeding Cool readers for his Pond Life columns, Martin Conaghan is editor of the Vigil historical imprint at Insomnia Publications and author of their graphic novel Burke & Hare. Or at least he was.
Bleeding Cool reported on some of the vague ructions at the publisher over the weekend but today I understand that, after working a weekend on the Insomnia stand at the Bristol Comics Expo when the publisher did not turn up, Conaghan has resigned as editor. He has also withdrawn all personal support for the Burke & Hare graphic novel having fufilled his publication agreement with Insomnia to deliver the book and promote it on release.
The Vigil line not only included Burke & Hare by Conagan and artist Will Pickering, but three other titles already signed or at an advanced stage of production; Hard Hat Riots by Dan Archer, Crowley by Martin Hayes and Roy Huteson Stewart, and Pinkerton by Richmond Clements and Will Pickering.
Burke & Hare was recently featured in the top 10 best-selling titles in the Sony PSP Comic Book Store.
When approached, Conaghan informed Bleeding Cool that he is unable to comment. I received no response from Crawford Coutts, co-founder of Insomnia and Managing Director.
