Twelve Years Experience #8 by Joel Ronson – The Radioactive Rapist
I am really getting into reading graphic novels. I like that, "No, I am not reading a comic strip, I am reading a novel with illustrations" sentence that I can say to people. The other thing I really like about graphic novels is that they can tell a very deep story.
So I went to my local book shop wanting to pick up a graphic novel and got Persepolis. And after making a funny mafia reference while buying the book and feeling pleased with myself for making the woman behind the counter laugh, I start reading.
I am only about three pages in but I can tell it is exactly what I am looking for, a different read to the superhero comics I usually read. So don't give me any spoilers! That's right, I am looking at you, the internet.
I have a truly terrible relationship with spoilers, I have to be so careful while looking up comics/graphic novels just in case I find out the end. My worst experience with spoilers was in the IGN 100 Best Comic-Book Heroes video countdown. They revealed the end of The Atom series and afterwards said "spoiler".
Why do people put spoilers on the internet? It's not to recommend a comic, people don't recommend a comic by saying "It was a great comic, The Radioactive Rapist died in the end, you should read it", I made up the villain The Radioactive Rapist, of course, I don't want to be accused of doing the thing I hate!
If I ever start writing comics maybe I will use The Radioactive Rapist, or The Molester. Now that I think about it maybe something happened to me when I was younger…
Anyway! I hope you have enjoyed this column and I will be back for another rant next week BUT if you can't wait until then, you can follow me on twitter at @Joelronson
