Twenty-Two Thoughts About Today's Comics

Twenty-Two Thoughts About Today's ComicsComics are delayed to the UK by two days again this week, they'll be available tomorrow, as soon as shops have sorted through the deliveries. So I turned to my man on the inside to give us a few little tasters on what to expect today (or tomorrow).

Action Comics #5 confirms that all dogs go to the Phantom Zone and not heaven. The secret of Krypto-Goat revealed! And it takes an Anti-Superman Army to hold Kal back!

In Animal Man #5 Buddy gets his face eaten off by his daughter and I still feel worse for that poor dog!

Avengers Annual has some crazy Scarlet Witch pre-House of M relevance with Evil Wonder Man that will totally lead into Avengers vs X-Men. Also, is it just me or is Beast always disappointed in his friends?

Avengers X-Sanction #2 has the Future Man vs the Futurist! Next issue Terminator fights Kool-Aid Man.

The Boys #62 has that bittersweet endgame excitement that all Ennis runs get towards the end! Thanks to Avatar Press we'll all be able to fill our Boys hole with Dicks!

Defenders #2 has more of the Sexist Supreme! Apparently he has a thing for fitness chicks, but even Red She-Hulk is creeped out by him.

Detective Comics #5 has a twelve page origin story of the Jokerz gang from Batman Beyond, then a Catwoman and mystery villain 8 page back-up. It doesn't take the World's Greatest Detective to deduce Tony Daniel's getting behind on art.

Fatale #1 is why we love comics! Creator's making something greater than the sum of their parts. This is a story that can really only be told well as a comic, and look DC and Marvel: no super heroes or 80's rehash!

Ferals #1 feels like we're getting closer to another Stray Bullets for David Lapham. Sure it has werewolf gore, but its crime is showing!

Green Arrow #5 feels like the Smallville version to me. Some people may like that a lot, but I'm not feeling it.

Huntress #3 fights Guidos, gorillas, and juice heads on the Italian Shore.

JLI #5 has the budding bromace of super buddies Guy and Booster! I don't know if it'll make fans miss Ted Kord more or less.

OMAC #5 is a monster mash-up with Frankenstein. Didio, Lemire, and Giffen all share the "story and art" credit and blame.

I get that Penguin's new girlfriend is blind, but doesn't he smelllike fish too?

Morgan Freeman is closing in on the Punisher(s).

The Red Lanterns #5 all beat off each other some more, meanwhile back on Earth Passive-Aggresive Man gets a red ring.

Stormwatch #5 starts 2012 with a bang. Did the Mayans predict the Daemonites?

Swamp Thing #5 goes full romance as Alec and Abby finish each other's sentences.

Uncanny X-Force #19.1 launches Age of Apocalypse's X-Terminated! This team is so dark, they're like if X-Force had an X-Force!

Uncanny X-Men #4 shows how Scott's Extinction team can neutralize an Omega level threat in a single issue, but not without a town full of collateral damage.

Wolverine and the X-Men Alpha & Omega has Brian Wood channeling his teenage punk past. I would love to hear Quintin/Brian's opinions on the comic industry. But really, Wood has a voice for this character and would do well on the main title if Jason Aaron ever left.

X-Men #23 can't find Jubilee, but X-23 #20 can.
