I Think Dick Cook May Have Trouble With His DC Trademark Application
This is the visual for the trademark application under the name DC DICK COOK STUDIOS.
Dick Cook is a former Chairman of Disney Studios, leaving the company at the time they bought Marvel, then the longest standing Disney employee amongst its executives after working for Disney since 1970 as a steam train operator at Disneyland in Anaheim. and moving to Legendary. After being asked to step down by Bob Iger, he joined the board of directors at Legendary. But he still has irons in the fire.
A trademark has been applied for, amongst other things,
G & S: Printed matter, namely, post cards, holiday/greeting cards, art prints, art reproductions, bumper stickers, stickers, decals, tissue/giftwrap, posters, wall calendars, flags and pennants of paper, printed and paper emblems, brochures, catalogs, and merchandise bags; books, namely, activity books, address books, appointment books, coloring books, picture books, and comic books; paper and paper articles, namely, photographs, stationery, memo pads, notebooks, envelopes; pencil sharpeners, pen and pencil cases and boxes, pens, pencils, erasers, rulers, paper weights, staplers; binders, notebooks, stationery consisting of writing paper and envelopes, memo pads, writing tablets; paper table cloths, paper napkins, paper coasters, and paper mats; money clips
Emphasis mine. Of course, while it has some resemblance to
Or even
DC Comics' current trademarked logo is
After a fight that DC Comics started with
Over its similarity (apparently) to
Which DC Comics lost and then had to pay DC Shoes a six figure sum every years for the use of their own logo, necessity the change to the current look.
But when it comes down to it, registering DC as a logo for comic books… well, it's certainly going to be challenged. And Dick Cook's Disney background and current Legendary Studios status probably doesn't exactly help the matter when it comes to Warner Bros…
