Jon Favreau And Disney Are Making A 'Live Action' Version Of The Lion King Next
Back when The Jungle Book came out earlier this year, I started really thinking about a 'live action' version of the Lion King. The animal work done in Jon Favreau's film was really convincing and well done, so it seemed like a natural progression to think about re-doing the Lion King.
Well, it looks like Favreau might indeed be taking on 1994 animated film. He has just sent out this cryptic tweet. It's mentions his next project and a pretty obvious hint towards the film.
Take a look:
I'd also say with Disney's recent success at doing live action versions of animated classics, and Favreau's work on The Jungle Book, it wouldn't be too much to assume this would be going down the photorealistic route.
Of course, this could be referencing Prince John in Robin Hood, or a really odd way to reannounce The Magic Kingdom, but I doubt it. If this really is a live action Lion King, I'm in. I'm all the way in.
[Edit: And here is the confirmation. Interestingly, there is no 100% confirmation that Favreau is directing, instead Disney just say they are 'joining forces'. I assume this means he is directing, but there is nothing here that says it outright.
