MAD Magazine's Don "Duck" Edwing Passes At Age 82
In what has already been a tough year, yesterday may have been one of the worst for losing talented people. We reported on the passing of Carrie Fisher, author Richard Adams and comedian Ricky Harris. But that was only half as we also lost character actor George S. Irving who I'll write up on his own, NFL Special Teams coach Bruce DeHaven and Vera Rubin, the scientist who confirmed the existence of Dark Matter.
But yesterday we also lost a great artistic and comedic talent in Don "Duck" Edwing, a longtime contributor to MAD Magazine. The Brooklyn native sold his first work to MAD at the age of 28, appearing in issue #70. Besides his many credited cartoons as both a writer and artist, Edwing wrote for Don Martin's cartoons, Spy vs. Spy, helped 'punch-up' other contributors work and came up with cover ideas. He also worked on thirteen MAD paperbacks. Edwing was 82 years old.
A more personal tribute to the man was done up by MAD artist Tom Richmond here.
