It's Looking More And More Likely Fox Will Tackle Dark Phoenix Again With Rumored Next X-Men Movie

x-menapocalypse

Because U demanded it: it looks like Fox is taking another crack at The Dark Phoenix Saga again in their X-Men movie franchise. We all fondly remember X-Men: The Last Stand, right? No?! Well, that's all the better then – maybe Fox will get it right this time. After all, we all enjoyed the last movie in the franchise, X-Men: Apocalypse, right? Right?? Okay, don't answer that.

So here's how this rumor is playing out. Earlier this week, movie casting call websites began advertising a new production called X-Men: Supernova. This follows reports from November that the X-Men franchise could be headed for another reboot, with Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, and Nicholas Hoult all requiring new contracts if they're to continue with the franchise, and Hugh Jackman of course ending his run as Wolverine with March's Logan. Bryan Singer has reportedly mentioned wanting to do an X-Men movie set in space, which is where the Dark Phoenix story takes place in the comics (just forget about X-Men 3, okay?). And just yesterday, the casting call site Production Weekly updated its listing for X-Men: Supernova , which already sounded pretty Dark Phoenix-y, with the new working title Dark Phoenix, which sounds about as Dark Phoenix-y as possible, since it literally says "Dark Phoenix."

So all signs are pointing to the next X-Men film telling the Dark Phoenix story, as long as you're willing to take a somewhat flimsy rumor based on casting call website blog posts as evidence. If true, though, we should find out more soon, as the movie is supposedly set to start filming in Montreal in May, a month after The New Mutants begins in that same location.
