Artist Accuses 20th Century Fox of Stealing His Art for Deadpool 2 Promotion [UPDATE]
EDIT 5/13: Kahn has reached out and made a statement.
"The photo was posted in jest- if that was made unclear, I apologize. I have no intention of seeking or pursuing any action against 20th Century Fox or have any expectation of compensation, where individuals have jumped to the contrary. I don't think this is another "Solo: A Star Wars Story" poster situation. There are similarities, but plenty of differences. Whether or not they were aware of my work while creating their own poster, I'm indifferent to. You can't really copyright a concept and this concept is a general one. I'm a big fan of the character and continuing his sarcastic and meta nature may not have been communicated clearly enough here. From a fellow Canadian, I wish Ryan Reynolds and Deadpool 2 the best."
So no one is getting sued and it was done in jest which is a good.

The idea of art theft in the internet age is far from uncommon. It seems like every other week there is someone coming out to say that a studio or corporation took their art, concept, or style and used it for marketing purposes. It looks like 20th Century Fox and Deadpool are not exempt from that. According to artist Andrew Sebastian Kwan based out of Toronto, he took to Twitter to ask why Fox decided to rip off his image of Deadpool cuddling a stuff unicorn for the Deadpool 2 marketing.
To double check, we went back and found the original image that Kwan posted in February 2016.
Legally speaking, Kwan doesn't really have a leg to stand on when it comes to actual theft, but the images are remarkably similar. It exists in that grey area, and there probably isn't much anyone can do about it. Bleeding Cool spoke to a lawyer in 2016 about the legality of fan art featuring copyrighted characters, and it appears the law isn't on fan artists' side. However, this isn't exactly a good look for Fox.
