Oni and Valiant Beat Premier Publisher Rivals in January 2019 Marketshare Per Capita
We haven't done one of these for a while. But with the observation that DC Comics have reduced the number of titles they are publishing of late, we thought we'd run a Marketshare-Per-Capita chart.
We've already looked at publisher marketshare in the North American direct market of comic book shops for January 2018, with Marvel Comics again dominating. And looked at the top 100 ordered comics and graphic novels for the month.
But if you divide the marketshare by the number of individual titles published that month, you get a different picture. Simply put, when you look at the performance of each titles, Marvel Comics still beats DC Comics, per title, but nowhere near what the overall marketshare figures would suggest.
Dynamite has slipped back down from third place, but level-peg with Dark Horse on sales, beating them on dollars. IDW drops below Dark Horse, Dynamite, Oni, Boom and Valiant. Greater marketshare is made up of increased titles it seems…
I hope this is a conversation point. I'll try and keep this up going forward.
