Looks Like We're Getting Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered

In the latest round of Ghostbusters news for gatekeeping hardcore fanboys to obsess and hate on, it looks like we're getting Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered. The news comes to us from ResetEra, where one of their users found this listing below from a Taiwanese game rating site (the same one that probably spoiled Gears Of War 5 for Xbox this week). As you can see, it shows a listing for the game being developed and produced by Mad Dog Games for the Xbox One, with a website link to PlayGhostbusters.com (which doesn't work at the moment).

If you're unfamiliar with this one, Ghostbusters: The Video Game was released in June 2009 by Atari and was considered, at that time, about as close to a Ghostbusters 3 we were ever going to get. Especially since it had everything going for it that fans were begging for at the time. The script was co-written by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis along with a team of game writers. The original cast came in to voice their lines including Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, and William Atherton. (Rick Moranis and Sigourney Weaver turned down initial offers to reprise their roles.) It took place in 1991, just two years after the events with Vigo, and had a ton of references to both films including the music. It was a fanboy dream at that time as you played a new cadet joining the team. But it also got criticism for having a paper-thin plot and a not-so-great ending as they rehashed half the game's assets and relied on nostalgia to carry it.

Mad Dog Games are one of the bigger gaming studios who specialize in remakes and remasters of older titles, so it's no surprise that they'd be taking the reins on this one. What's surprising is that we're only seeing an Xbox One version for the game and not a listing for multiple platforms as the original was released on everything available at the time. So there may be a chance this is not an Xbox exclusive, which would make for an interesting release on PS4 and Nintendo Switch. We'll see if we get an update on the game at E3 2019 this year, which seems like it might be the case just a month away from the event.
