Original Comic Art, From A Little French Boutique

Today I would like to share my work with you. I love comics, I've been reading comics for more than 25 years now and every Wednesday, I feel like a virgin on a first date when I open the door to my local comic bookstore : the passion I have for comics is beyond anything rational.

The name is Thomas Rivière, I'm 36 and I grew up reading French comics like Asterix and Tintin. When I turned 11, my brother introduced me to super-heroes and it changed my life forever. Asterix and Tintin were my parent's choices, but from that point, the X-Men were MY heroes. I remember felling concerned about the New Mutants problems and issues when I was reading them. I cared about them, beacause I felt different. Sunspot was the one I could relate with, because of his curly hair, because he was feeling alone, and because he was cool and nobody knew it. My first book was Arthur Adams' Asgardian adventures. When you read that at 11, it becomes an addiction.

My goal in life became not to be a super-hero (come on…) but to work with the comic book industry. I spent all my teenage year drawing, in order to become an artist. I failed to become one, but got the chance to write my own book called Anonyman, with art bu FedM and a beautiful cover by Kenneth Rocafort.

There is no easy path to work with comics, you have to make your own. That's why I created the Comics Place, one of the most popular Comics News blog here in France. I got attention from the industry after creating my own indie company called Merluche Comics which became Glénat Comics, Glénat's imprint for American Comics. As co-editor and co-creator, we have published great books such as Humberto Ramos and Paul Jenkins' Fairy Quest, Warren Ellis' Anna Mercury and Ignition City, Robert Kirkman's Astounding Wolf-Man, Ian Churchill's Marineman, J. Scott Campbell's Danger Girl Revolver, Christos Gage's Absolution and many more.

Collecting comics is one thing, meeting artists, talk with them, share something is the next step. Today I get the chance to meet all kind of wonderful artists and comic book lovers. Buying a book printed at 100,000 copies can be a great experience, but there's nothing like buying a unique piece of art. I started to collect Origianal Art in 2007, today I own over 25 great original comic book pages but amazing artists like Frank Quitely, Bryan Hitch, Humberto Ramos, Leinil Yu or Ian Churchill.

That new passion grew into me and I've decided to share this by creating a store where fans and artists can buy and sell their original art.

We just launched a new website with Olivier Kassabi, my business partner a brand new webstore dedicated to fans worldwide : we sell Original Pages from famous and fan-favorite comic book artists.
