Bleeding Cool Bestseller List – 20th April 2014 – Batman Beats Spider-Man. Twice.

bman30This is the Top Ten Bleeding Cool Bestseller List, as compiled by a number of comic stores from their sales on Wednesday and Thursday. It measures what are known as the "Wednesday Warriors", those who can't wait to the weekend to get this week's comics. We salute you, and the keenness you bring to your passion.

And since Batman is out this week, Batman is at the top, beating out the finale of Superior Spider-Man, as does the second issue of Batman Eternal. Harley Quinn is still doing strong, and beats both the debuts of Hulk and Sinestro

  1. Batman #30
  2. Batman Eternal #2
  3. Superior Spider-Man #31
  4. Justice League #29
  5. Batman and Wonder Woman #30
  6. Uncanny X-Men #20
  7. Harley Quinn #5
  8. Sinestro #1
  9. Hulk #1
  10. Ms Marvel #3

Thanks to the following retailers,

And this is what they had to say

DC dominated. Batman Eternal is selling well as the main Batman book.
Justice League was the biggest surprise to me, we sold out of our shelf copies. Sinestro did well but time will tell if people come back for 2 & 3…

We can't keep Ms. Marvel on the shelf. We've had to reorder every issue and #3 looks to be no exception.

I didn't expect Spider-Man to have a big day with everyone just waiting for Amazing #1.

The biggest thud of the week was Ultimate FF. 75% of shelf copies were unsold by days end Thursday. Outside of subscribers, our customers just don't care about Ultimate books without "spider" in the title.

Monster week with Superior Spider-Man selling slightly better than Batman and Justice League. Batman Eternal #2 had a larger than expected sales drop off last weeks first issue. Hulk #1 would have sold more copies if we had ordered more. Ordering remorse.

Batman still is the king. After two smallish weeks, it was nice to have another solid week of books. Hearing grumbling about the delays of Forever Evil and Batman Superman.

Great week in books for fans of Batman & the X-men! This week we saw more and more people scooping up Batman Eternal, many going back for #1 after the positive word of mouth they have been hearing. X-men fans seem to be getting just about every X-men book except the one called just X-men. Hulk #1 fell flat here, just another example of our customers using the NEW #1 Marvel gimmick as a chance to jump off. One customer said, "Reboot three times in two years? I'll skip this one and maybe try it out when they reboot again in six months." Can't argue much with him there.

Been seeing a ton of Godzilla stuff moving the last couple weeks since the trailers debuted. It seems like as much Godzilla as we can get in, it goes right back out. You other shops might want to stock up!

Great week for books. Batman still king of the mountain and now with Eternal so well the second week it will be a toss up to see which one dominates on the same week schedule. Hulk #1 also did amazing well considering the backlash of Marvel reboots. Moon Knight still the best launch of the bunch.

This was a Sci-Fi week for back-issues. Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica and anything cosmic for Marvel and Dc sold well. Customers did not pick and choose with books, bought lots at once.

Lots of hot comics this week. Batman 30 still rules. Even with the same cover recolored yet again it still is a red hot title. Batman Eternal 2 surprised me with it strong sales. I very much want this weekly to be a hit and was not sure how another title added to an already crowded market place would do. So far so good. Superior Spiderman ends on a high sales note. Lots of people checking out how it all ends. Hulk 1 followed the same pattern of the previous Daredevil 1. The same people picked up the book that did the previous issues. No new readers checked them out. Meaning I over ordered on those. Good solid sales over all.

Captain America back issues suddenly came alive thanks to the movie. I sold more back issues than of his current Captain America run. Hint to Marvel get a new creative team on the current Captain America. Dr Mindbubble is not a villain the average reader wants to read about. Daredevil 1980s run is seeing some love also. Spiderman back issues are starting to move also. And Batman. Because it is Batman.
