Bleeding Cool Bestseller List 6th January 2019 – How Strange, A Stranger Things Revival

This is the Top Ten Bleeding Cool Bestseller List, as compiled by a number of comic stores from their sales on Wednesday and Thursday. It measures what are known as the "Wednesday Warriors", those who can't wait till the weekend to get this week's comics. We salute you, and the keenness you bring to your passion.

Heroes In Crisis far ahead and a regular Detective Comics beats out a Marvel Conan launch. But Stranger Things is back with a vengeance…

Who had this to say,

New Year means a weak start to the year. Heroes in Crisis took the lead. Immortal Hulk was the top Marvel selling title. We no longer have a single copy of the previous issues. It seemed to drop off last year and then came back to life. Infinity Wars Infinity 1 confused a lot people who were wondering if it was just a variant of the first issue of Infinity Wars. Stranger Things 4 sold out on Wednesday. Thankfully it was available for reorder.

The return of Heroes in Crisis means DC is back on top at FFF this week with our weekly Top Ten Bestsellers list. Detective Comics made second place with the final issue of Stranger Things (for now) close behind. Stranger Things went through an odd four months where the first issue sold like hot cakes followed by a dismal second and third month. It feels like people forgot it was out, then came back in for the fourth issue. We did have a lot of first time customers sign up for pull folders who then needed to be reminded a month after issue #2 came out to pick up their folder. I see the TPB selling much better over a longer period of time. Conan fell flat in the middle of our Top Ten list. Which was a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one. We'll see if the other series and one-shots sell the same. Infinity closed out with it's final(?) issue at the bottom of our list.

Conan dominated, especially the bundle deal we put together which included the True Believers Conan #1. Walking Dead might have taken the top spot if it had two covers, but it was only the one this week. Heroes in Crisis picked up a little in sales. I haven't heard spoilers but the impression l got was that something significant happened this week. All the other titles shook out to be about the same level they've maintained at. Still kind of a slow week overall.

Heroes in Crisis was number 1 again, with that title climbing in sales with every issue against my every expectation of it dropping in sales. Will need to adjust future issues even higher for my initial orders…

A somewhat light week to kick off the year, but certainly more robust than last week's books! Our top sellers include HEROES IN CRISIS and DETECTIVE, neither of which is particularly surprising. But we've also got the return of CONAN THE BARBARIAN to Marvel comics, courtesy of Mahmud Asrar and Jason Aaron!

The CHAMPIONS relaunch managed to squeak in at the bottom of the list, and the, *sigh*, one-shot "epilogue" to INFINITY WAR sold relatively well. Other than that, we're seeing usual suspects like ACTION COMICS and UNCANNY X-MEN.

Batman Adventures #12 9.4 $575 – Sold the first Harley Quinn earlier this week online.
