Randy Myers of Collectors Corner returns to Bleeding Cool with a look at his documentary for Free Comic Book Day 2014.
Free Comic Book Day at Collectors Corner this year was even smoother and more exciting than last year, with our first fan David lining up at 4pm on Thursday afternoon.By 1pm over fifty plus people were waiting in line.
We opened the doors and allowed fans to start grabbing their free comics in the tents at 9:00 am. This year we were giving out fifty Amazing Spider-Man 2 movie tickets to the first 50 people in line, and $25 worth of merchandise including graphic novels, comics and collectibles to the first fifty people in line as well as $15 in merchandise to the next fifty in line.
In addition to the five free comics everyone could choose from every FCBD 2014 title offered each person got to choose fifteen free back issues and a copy of our Valiant Comics customized cover with a coupon printed on the cover to redeem 2 Free Comics and 50% off a Valiant graphic novel of their choice.
Featured interviews include owner Randy Myers, assistant manager Andrea Purcell, Jim Steranko, Michael Bracco and many more.
Attendance was more than 3,500 at CC HQ. 30,000 plus comics including free back issues were given away. A hundred free pizzas provided by Dominics Pizza & Subs were decimated.
We would like to send out a huge thanks to everyone that helped make Free Comic Book Day a rousing success at both Collectors Corner & Collectors Corner Bel Air.
Firstly our customers, both old and new, and first timers on FCBD… and I use the term customers loosely, you are family to us without those that understand our mission to create more comic book fans, readers we would have nothing and not be able to give back on a day like FCBD.
Creators Jim Steranko, Joe Keatinge, Leila De Duca, Rachel Autumn Deering, Tyler Jenkins, PLB, Bill, Carlos, Kata Kane, Monica Gallagher, Nate Getz, Tony Calandra, Mike Bracco, Nick, Dan, John, Vince, Mike, Girls Only Comics Club, TJ and of course all CC employees who worked like well oiled machines with the tremendous help of the all volunteer CC army!
Our cosplay team bringing the fun and walk ins into the event at both stores, Amazing Spidey Mann, JK Cosplay, Maki Rolle, Sarah, Brandon, Murder Nurse, Brittany Tartaglia, Leigh & Jay and everyone else too!
Super Art Fight for working hard and entertaining the crowds at both locations. A big hit with everyone and likely a new tradition that we hope to see year after year!
At CC HQ we saw over 3000-3500 Fans throughout the day gathering in an orderly fashion, and had a record breaking #1 in line Thursday afternoon who camped out from Thursday til Saturday 9AM with the exception of a few bathroom breaks!
At CC Bel Air we saw 1500-2000 fans at the first FCBD for this location and nothing but smiles as far as the eye could see!
The winners of our third annual FCBD costume contest were Punisher, Judge Dredd & Princess Anna. Again we noticed lots more children and families this year which is always a good sign for the future.
The documentary was filmed by Jeff Otradovec and Corey Chaney during the day with interviews and footage from morning until afternoon along with our own in store videos taken by volunteers and fans along with photos by professional photographer, Mark Gross.
Collectors Corner would like to thank everyone again for making this year our smoothest Free Comic Book Day ever! Huge thanks to our customers who spread the word that not only is Collectors Corner the best place to be for FCBD in Maryland, but the best place to be every Wednesday for new comics and to hang out at anytime. Without our awesome customers none of these events would be possible!
Now we start planning for next year…
