ComicsPRO Leak: Bad Idea's Video with James Van Der Beek, Orlando Jones, Billy Zane, Morgan Fairchild, Gilbert Godfried, and Many More
Just a few weeks ago, a team of comic publishing executives – Dinesh Shamdasani, Warren Simons, Hunter Gorinson, Josh Johns, and Atom Freeman – unveiled their new publishing brand Bad Idea, announcing they would only sell their comics in twenty qualifying comic book stores, increasing to fifty in the first year. No variants, no digital, no collections, no Diamond distribution.
We suspected that they might possibly be ripped limb from limb when they arrived at ComicsPRO this week.
However, they appear to weathered the storm more than well, announcing that they were increasing their "first wave" of stores to 50 in the face of an ocean of emails, phone calls, and DMs from retailers frantically trying to get a place in Bad Idea's coveted 20-store program.
But that wasn't even their big news.
In what may well soon be known as the comic company promo video to end all comics company promo videos, Bad Idea co-CEOs & CCOs Dinesh Shamdasani and Warren Simons and publisher Hunter Gorinson revealed a retailers-only video explaining the company's POV and the strategy behind its limited store rollout.
As Gorinson explained, the company "spent some money on the internet" and brought the house down with a Cameo-collected selection of appearances from none other than actor James Van Der Beek (Dawson's Creek), comedian Gilbert Gottfried, actor Orlando Jones (American Gods), rapper Xzibit, actor Ernie Hudson (Ghostbusters), actor Morgan Fairchild, actor Bill Duke (Predator), actor Peter Weller (Robocop), comedian David Koechner (Anchorman), actor Beverly D'Angelo (National Lampoon's Vacation), actor Tia Carrere (Wayne's World), punk rock icon Marky Ramone…and, well, a lot, lot more that you have to see to believe.
Bad Idea has not yet released the video officially, but a Bleeding Cool source filming in the audience (naughty naughty) managed to grab the following clip. You'll want to watch until the end:
