Matthew Snyder writes,

Welcome to the Comixology Bestseller list, your guide to see how well your favorite titles are selling digitally. Every week I'll post the ranking of every new title, plus a ranking of the best selling volumes & graphic novels. As always, I hope you find it interesting and informative.

Comixology Bestseller List – 7th October 2018 – The Walking Dead Beats Batman

Bit of a weird week. The top of the sales chart starts out predictable enough, with The Walking Dead, Batman and Justice League taking the top shots. But then, in a surprise twist, two issues sold so well in their second week they both made the Top 10: Heroes in Crisis and Doomsday Clock. One old issue in the Top 10 is an uncommon occurrence, but two? Unheard of. Thanks to these two lingerers, DC wins the Top 10 this week, with 6 books compared to Marvel and Image's 2 apiece.

But there's even more chaos down the sales chart, as a Tom King sale caused first arc Mister Miracle issues to flood the lower half of the Top 25. So this, readers, is why I keep Top 25 and New Issue Rankings separate. In my opinion, the best way to gauge a book's performance over time is to see how well it did against other new issues, unaffected by random sales.

Well, that's a nice boost for Nightwing's 50th Issue. DC should really shoot their heroes in the head more often. (I kid, I kid). Now I've seen many comments here on Bleeding Cool saying they hate the new dark direction DC is taking with Heroes in Crisis and Nightwing. Fair enough. But the fans' wallets are saying something different at the moment. And if dark and gritty continue to sell, does that mean the optimism of Rebirth is over? Will DC try to strike a balance, or are we entering a New Age of Edginess?

Paper Girls keeps inching up the rankings each month, cementing its status as one of Image's top sellers. It appears to have gotten a lift after Saga went into hiatus, so my guess is digital readers filled the void by catching up on Brian K Vaughan's other works. In other indie news, Umbrella Academy: Hotel Oblivion hit No. 25 in the New Issue Rankings, one of Dark Horse's best debuts this year (right up there with Black Hammer: Age of Doom).
