Gail Simone, Jeff Lemire, Kelly Sue DeConnick, Chip Zdarsky and More Guest-Star in Valiant's Faith #3
We've often see the guest-star laden milestone issue in comics…but could this be the start of a whole new genre? The first guest-star laden "convention issue"?
The answer lies in today's Faith #3 from Valiant – written by Jody Houser with art by Pere Perez and Marguerite Sauvage. Picking up on the adventures of Valiant's plus-sized super-heroine as she attends a local Los Angeles convention with nascent boyfriend Archer, the duo soon find themselves in Artist's Alley…where more than a few familiar faces appear:
To your left, you might spot the entire Faith creative team – writer Jody Houser, artists Pere Perez and Marguerite Sauvage, and colorist Andrew Dalhouse – alongside Gail Simone. To your right, Jeff Lemire – soon to be writing Bloodshot U.S.A. for Valiant – joins his fellow Marvel alums Ryan Stegman, Kelly Sue DeConnnick, and Chip Zdarsky.
As a noted comic book fan herself, could these be some of Faith's personal favorites? Or perhaps an indication of where the Valiant talent pool might be headed next…?
Regardless, kudos to series artist Pere Perez, who is likely one of the few non-biographical comics artists to ever be afforded the opportunity to draw himself onto the printed page. (Even if he is asleep at the drawing board…)
There quite a few other Easter eggs sprinkled throughout the first issue of Faith's two-part convention adventure, so keep your eyes peeled and let us know if there's anyone else we might have missed… There do seem to be some familiar looking cosplayers elsewhere in the issue after all…
Faith #3 is on sale today from Valiant Entertainment.
