Golden Apple Comics of Los Angeles Supports Striking Teachers

This week, 32,000 Los Angeles teachers went on strike, leaving 600,000 children without classes.

Negotiations between the United Teachers Los Angeles union and the Los Angeles Unified School District failed, leading to the city's first teachers' strike in 30 years. Rather than focusing on teachers' salaries, however, this strike is over class sizes,

With claims of up to fifty students in a class in Los Angeles education districts, the demand is for the county to hire more teachers and reduce class sizes.

The latest offer to teachers was to have class sizes in grades four to six limited to 35 students, and class sizes in all middle and high school maths and English classes limited to 39 students, as well as an increase in nurses, counselors and librarians, along with a 6% salary increase and back pay for 2017-2018. However, it is understood that this offer was only good for one year, and so the strike continues.

Golden Apple Comics of Los Angeles, currently celebrating its fortieth year in business, has made an offer to any of those 32,000 teachers, giving them 25% off comics and books during the strike.

Well, we know how much teachers appreciate a golden apple on their desk, don't we?
