Graham Humphreys Paints The Covers To Video Nasty, Launching This Saturday

"Video nasty" is a peculiarly British term, coined in the eighties for films available on VHS and BetaMAX tapes believed to corrupt their audience through extreme violence and sexualised violence.

It's also the name for a new comic launching this Saturday in London, not at the London Super Comic Con (thoigh they will be there), but at the Prince Charles Cinema in Leicester Square on Saturday evening, alongside a screening of once-banned-for-being-a-video-nasty The Evil Dead, introduced by the comic's writer Mario Covone with a free first issue of the series for attendees. The artist, Vasilis Logios, is a veteran Greek comics artist and performs as a member of the Greek hip hop group Tri.p.a under the Imiz Biz label.

The comic explores the real world politics behind government censorship and media manipulation in 1980's Britain from the vantage point of a fictional horror story.

Police Inspector David Gorely must solve a string of grisly murders in his usually quiet rural town whilst contending with pressure from his superiors to find a link between the killer and the recent influx of horror home videos. The race is on to solve the case before the death toll rises whilst still dealing with the burden of connecting these heinous crimes to video nasties.
