Kelly Sue DeConnick Returns to Marvel for Marvel #1000 with Artist David Lopez
Kelly Sue DeConnick's last comic book published by Marvel was Captain Marvel and the Carol Corps, a mini-series tying into the Secret Wars super-mega-crossover event. Since then, DeConnick has been concentrating on her own projects before recently joining DC Comics to write Aquaman. But now, DeConnick is back at Marvel… at least for one issue… or at least for one story in one issue.
Last week, Marvel Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski announced plans to sell a million issues of a single comic, referencing the last time Marvel did that with the launch of Star Wars #1. And when new comics hit stores on Wednesday, featuring teaser adds for creative teams that included the return of some big names to Marvel, Bleeding Cool told you that this was all for Marvel Comics #1000, Marvel's attempt to replicate the success of books from the Distinguished Competition such as Action Comics #1000 and Detective Comics #1000, anthologies featuring creative teams working on short stories as small as a single page. Is it enough star power to drive sales of a million issues?
Adding names like DeConnick, who is still riding high off the successful Captain Marvel movie, is likely to help. DeConnick will be joined by artist David Lopez for this tale, as revealed on Twitter:
Will it be a Captain Marvel story? It seems almost certain, as Lopez was the artist on the 2014 Marvel Now Captain Marvel relaunch. We may learn more when Marvel's August solicits hit later this month.
If you want to look through all the teasers yourself, you can see a full listing of all the tweets we've found so far, though we'll continue to break out any we find particularly surprising (or likely to garner clicks) as we continue to parse them.
