Bleeding Cool's  Kickstarter Correspondent, Shawn Demumbrum has lead three Kickstarter campaigns to launch comic books, two successfully funded and one that wasn't.  Each week he will point out some of the unique Kickstarter projects that wouldn't normally be published by the big comic book companies, but deserve your attention.  Shawn's current project Break the Walls: Stories Inspired by the Songs of the Pixies was also funded through Kickstarter  Interested in learning how to run a Kickstarter campaign?  Read his new series Kickstart Your Comic

Kickstarter from the Heart: Timmy and the Moon Piece, Black Idol, The Realm and Martin MonstermanProject: Timmy and the Moon Piece

Creator: Mike Kunkel

Concept: "It's the story of a young boy, named Timmy, and his pet guinea pig, named Ton, on account of he such a plump little best friend of a pet.  And it is a tale of how they find a piece of the Moon in Timmy's front yard and they ride Timmy's red wagon like a rocket on an amazing adventure through the night up to the Moon.   Filled with red wagons, moonlight, outer space, meteors, satellites, and nostalgia . . . this is a childhood adventure i've dreamed of sharing with everyone for a long time.."

Sweet spot: Pledge $25 or more. "A SIGNED Copy of the Hardbound "Timmy and the Moon Piece" book + PDF of the book + an exclusive Kickstarter "Timmy and the Moon Piece" Postcard! "

Tipping point:  Mike always brings a magical quality to his work.  He caught my attention with Hero Bear and the Kid and brought his personal touch to Billy Batson and the Magic of Shazam.  I didn't realize that he created the Swampy character for the "Where's My Water?" game that my kids play until I read his Kickstarter project.

So far: $10,684 of $14,000 with 5 days to go

Kickstarter from the Heart: Timmy and the Moon Piece, Black Idol, The Realm and Martin MonstermanProject: Black Idol

Creator: Peter Popken

Concept: "A kingdom of wealth and grandeur reliant on a force so vast it shakes the earth. An island in a sea of poverty and suffering.  Standing between mysticism and tyranny, on the edge of apocalypse, a girl and a boy seek the truth and ultimately justice."

Sweet spot: Pledge $50 or more.  "A printed copy of the book mailed to you and credited as an early supporter in the acknowledgments of the graphic novel. (priority mail, shipping costs included)"

Tipping point:  Peter is a concept artist for the motion picture industry and the art for his graphic novel reflects that style.  It makes for an incredible looking book.

So far: $7,954 of $40,000 with 3 days to go

Kickstarter from the Heart: Timmy and the Moon Piece, Black Idol, The Realm and Martin MonstermanProject: The Realm

Creator: Ricardo Lira Acuña and Stan Timmons

Concept: "The Realm is a dark and gritty, 80-page graphic novel about a thief who searches for buried gold in a Mexican ghost town."

Sweet spot: Pledge $25 or more. "1. A hard copy of the graphic novel The Realm signed by Stan Timmons and myself. 2. An electronic copy of the graphic novel The Realm. 3. A Postcard of the Cover Art for The Realm."

Tipping point: If the Kickstarter video is any indication of what the graphic novel will be like, then this should be good.  Did I mention that I'm a fan of B-movies?

So far: $3,423 of $5,000 with 4 days to go

Kickstarter from the Heart: Timmy and the Moon Piece, Black Idol, The Realm and Martin MonstermanProject: Martin Monsterman

Creator: Manny Trembley

Concept: "It is the story of poor Martin Monsterman (pronounced like Letterman) who one day wakes to find himself the recipient of an inconsiderate curse. Each day he receives a notice (via letter, television, singing telegram, etc.) that explains that he will turn in to a specific monster that day. He must spend the whole day as that monster, and when a new day starts, he will change into something else. He could be a Godzilla-type creature, a crab man, a werewolf, a vampire, or the cockroach that ate Cincinnati. With the help of his two friends he must search the world for a way to reverse this daily, punctual curse. Martin Monsterman is an "adventure-monster-comedy" that has the potential to be developed in multiple standalone graphic novels."

Fundraising for: "My goal is simple. Produce my graphic novel, Martin Monsterman in full color. That ain't cheap. With your help I will raise the $7000 I need to get full color books printed and ready for you as well as conventions and for sale online. Martin Monsterman is my second release through FishTank Books. And it won't be the last."

Sweet spot: Pledge $20 or more. "Your name in the thank you section of Martin Monsterman + One signed soft cover of Martin Monsterman"

Tipping point: Turning into different monster every day has a lot of story potential especially if he moves beyond the ordinary monster tropes.

So far: $7,700 of $7,000 with 5 days to go
