Knockabout To Sell The Black Dossier In The UK

Knockabout To Sell The Black Dossier In The UKIt was one of the more odder publishing decisions.

Despite The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen: The Black Dossier passing through DC's legal department with only a few nips and tucks before being cleared, Paul Levitz, decided to overrule them and declared that the volume would not be distributed in the UK for what DC called "international copyright concerns and related issues."

What those were, were never clarified, but it cost Titan Books, who both officially republish and redistribute DC trade paperbacks and graphic novels in the UK, their Christmas bonuses.

Copies came to UK comic shops through the grey market – US shops redistributing copies to their UK counterparts – but official distribution never came.

Until May this year. When, in what is likely the result of some tricksy negotiation, Knockabout Comics, the UK publisher of League: Century, will be redistributing copies to UK comic stores and bookstores, officialy, through Diamond and their own distribution network. Legally.

If publication does occur with out a hitch it will throw further doubt of the legimitacy of the decision not to publish in the UK by DC…
