Local Comic Shop Day 2025, Saturday, 27th Of September, 2025, More Than Variant Covers

Article Summary

  • Local Comic Shop Day 2025 returns on September 27th with a new look and expanded focus beyond variant covers.
  • ComicsPRO shifts the event to highlight comic shops as beloved community third spaces, not just retail stores.
  • New branding, activities, and a logo by Tim Daniel emphasize comic shops' importance in local neighborhoods.
  • Retailers get new tools, guides, Discord channels, and centralized catalogs to create engaging local events.

ComicsPRO, organisers of Local Comic Shop Day, the annual event honouring brick-and-mortar comic shops, have stated that it is getting a full revamp for 2025, after a fallow year in 2024. And promise "new branding, new activities, and new ways to celebrate why we shop local when we shop nerdy. The event, which will take place at comic shops internationally on Saturday, September 27, will shift from its traditional variant-driven sales day to an entire campaign of events that will truly highlight what makes comic shops special."

"When we envisioned what Local Comic Shop Day could become, we really wanted to focus on the strength of comic shops as third spaces," said Shannon Live, Vice President of ComicsPRO, and who battled on valiantly at MCM London Comic Con this past weekend, and in the pub the night before, and as a result has become one of my favourite people. "Comic shops are destination stores, which means the people who shop them make an active decision to choose that space, and a lot of that comes from the insane amount of work retailers do to make their shops feel like home. We wanted to reflect on that and honour it in the concept of Local Comic Shop Day."

In addition to the reimagined celebration, ComicsPRO also unveiled a new logo for Local Comic Shop Day. The logo, designed by Tim Daniel, is intended to reflect "the idea of comic shops as a part of a neighbourhood, while also invoking the small business feel."

"We asked Tim to redesign our logo to convey a change in direction for Local Comic Shop Day," said Kate deNeveu, ComicsPRO Director of Operations. "Retailers want the event to be a celebration of local comic shops and their place in the communities. Our job at ComicsPRO is to bridge the gap and give participants the tools needed to run a truly successful community-building Local Comic Shop Day. Tools like pre-written press releases, signage and sale ideas, marketing assets, instructions for running kid-friendly scavenger hunts, and much, much more. ComicsPRO's greatest strength is the collective knowledge and experience of our members, and this year we're putting it all to work." ComicsPRO is adding the following features to Local Comic Shop Day:

  • An LCSD Official Ambassador
  • Discord channels for retailers and publishers to streamline the planning process
  • A marketing and events guide to help retailers easily take part in the event
  • And a catalogue that will centralise the offerings for retailers as they plan their experience.

Publishers can offer a variety of different items, including exclusive variants, line-wide discounts, event-in-a-box packs, etc. Those interested are encouraged to contact Kate deNeveu at thecomicbooklady@gmail.com. Retailer sign-ups will start in June, and stores that sign up will have access to the Local Comic Shop Day catalogue, Discord, and website featuring training materials for their event. Retailers can contact Shannon Live at comicsproedu@gmail.com with additional questions.
