Marvel Legacy All-New Wolverine #25: Surprisingly Macabre, Skillfully Crafted

Daken is back, and he just wants a drink.

Unfortunately, a cult called the Orphans of X have other plans, and it's up to Wolverine to figure out what happened to her sort-of brother.

This trail leads her down a dark path to places all-too familiar to her.

First off, apparently Daken was already back. I just wasn't privy to it. The last time I saw him, he was being drowned in a puddle by his own father in Uncanny X-Force.

In any case, this was a very solid read with some good character moments and a surprisingly disturbing mystery at the heart of it.

The Orphans of X are pretty damn creepy, from their weird masks to the fact that they seem to be normal people outside of the cult part. Their name has some implications too, but I don't want to speculate on that yet.

Daken is a good rogue, though it's odd that he seems to be more of an ant-hero now. I remember Dark Reign and Dark Wolverine. He's a bit of a frigging creep, and he's really sadistic. It's hard to swallow him having a change of heart. Of course, I feel that way about Sabretooth too.

The moments between Laura and Gabby are as endearing as ever. Laura is a great character, and I'm honestly fine with her keeping the Wolverine title for as long as possible.

I will say that yet another story delving into her past seems like a retread. I know the last plot was about the Guardians of the Galaxy and the Brood, but before that were many stories about clones of her and people who took part in the organization which created her controlling her mind again.

That being said, this has always kind of been the case for Wolverine, but we do know Laura's backstory already. As such, this is feeling a little repetitious.

That aside, this was still cool first issue for a new Laura arc.

Juann Cabal is the artist for this issue, and he brings a clean and detailed style. It looks very good with Laura. I was surprised at how gory this comic was, but I'm honestly pretty excited by that. Laura may not kill, but a Wolverine comic should still have its fair share of blood. I dig it.

Nolan Woodard does the color work, and it's damn solid as ever.

Overall, this was a decent new step for the All-New Wolverine comic. The plot is interesting, the characters are likable, and the action is good. This one gets a recommendation. Pick it up.
