Marvel's Latest Label, Marvel Premiere Graphic Novel, Set to Confuse Everyone Again

Longstanding Marvel Comics readers may recall that once there was an anthology comic called Marvel Premiere, intended to be a tryout book, intended to determine if a character or concept could attract enough readers to justify launching their own series, though in its later years it was also often used as a dumping ground for stories which could not be published elsewhere. It ran for 61 issues from April 1972 to August 1981.

Less longstanding Marvel comic collectors (going back all of eight or nine years or so) will be familiar with the Marvel Premiere Edition format, a hardcover collection of a comic close to initial publication of the original issues, fairly thin, and not kept in stock for long. There are a few listed here. It also spun off with a Marvel Premiere Classic Edition line featuring older stories.

And now there is a new Marvel Premiere Graphic Novel line, which is none of these things. Instead, it will signify that this is a first-in-print volume that has previously only been published digitally.

The first title to gain this sobriquet will be Immortal Iron Fists by Kaare Andrews and Afu Chan, published digitally then published as a trade paperback.

There's a new Iron Fist in town: the young kung fu monk Pei! And Danny Rand is ready to teach her everything she needs to know about harnessing her chi and being a hero. But can he teach the young native of K'un-Lun how to fit in at a New York City public school? And what about all the mysterious monsters that keep trying to destroy the Big Apple? Trouble is coming, but thank goodness this city is big enough for both Iron Fists – it's gonna need them! Get ready for an action-packed tale with twice the Iron Fists – crushing demons AND crushing on classmates.

In January, let the confusion begin!
