MCM London Comic Con – The Busiest It's Ever Been? Tickets Still Available For Sunday
This year MCM London Comic Con took over both sides of the London ExCel Centre. No more clashes with Zumba Events or the Islamic Peace And Light conference that saw imams huddled in discussion while women dressed as Japanese schoolgirls walked past. But more than that, people were buying. MCM London Comic Con has been accused of ghettoising the comics that gave them their name, and pushing for different audiences, leading attendees to, frankly, ignore the comics.
Not this year. Vendor after publisher after creator I spoke to talked about how well they were selling. Half way through Saturday some had sold out already and were trying to get more stock in. Small comics, big comics, everything was selling. The crowds were large, but moving and there were places to escape to, The cosplay was amazing as always. And the spirit was definitely up, vibrant, excited.
One publisher I talked to said initially they were disappointed to be doing MCM instead od Thought Bubble this year, but after a day and a half the were convinced otherwise.
As to sales… well, I appear to be walking around with a tonne of excellent looking comics. Time for a sit down I think. Oh look, the Humans panel is about to start.
Well, it would be rude not to…
