New Jersey Comic Expo's Programming Focuses Almost Exclusively On Comics

The New Jersey Comic Expo has released their programming schedule for the upcoming show November 18th and 19th at the New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center. Yesterday they announced that Gail Simone would be Guest of Honor, and we can see that she will be doing a Talking Deadpool panel. Guests Keith Giffen and Kevin Maguire will be talking their run on the Justice League, Colleen Doran will be getting a spotlight panel, and Dynamite will be hosting two panels on How Comics Are Made and Writing Comics The Dynamite Way.

There will also be a panel focused on Stan Lee's graphic novel God Woke that will include former Marvel Editor-in-Chief Tom Defalco, a panel on storytelling on a comic page, how comics change with the times, and two panels on cosplaying — including one on making your own armor.

Just an interesting thing to note: these panels are almost all focused on comic books. The people who make them, how they're made, how you can make them, and even how you can become those characters. That's really rare at a convention these days. So many cons have become about television, film, animation, and more. In every convention I've attended over the last few years, I've had at least one fellow creator talk about how we should find a convention that is focused on comics again. This may be it.
