Oni's The Life After Artist Gabo Reacts To Russ Manning Promising Newcomer Award Nomination
Oni Press celebrates good news for The Life After artist, Gabo, with a nomination for a Russ Manning Promising Newcomer Award. Gabriel "Gabo" Bautista is an Eisner and Harvey award-winning colorist who has previously worked on titles such as Will Eisner's The Spirit, Elephantmen, and All-Star Western.
Gabo shared his excitement for the nomination:
I pretty much fainted when I heard the news, and then I saw the other nominees and I fainted again. I am so incredibly honored and thrilled to be standing next to such brilliant artists. I owe all credit to my editor Ari Yarwood, the rest of the Oni Press crew, and of course Josh Fialkov for this. They've trained and nurtured me like a prize fighter, I love them all dearly.
For those of you who don't know, The Life After follows the life of Jude, whose life has fallen into a monotonous pattern. But when he discovers he has supernatural abilities that reveal the world around him to be Purgatory for suicides, his life changes forever. Now that he's awake to these abilities, he joins forces with the legendary Ernest Hemingway to change the afterlife for the better, despite what the bigwigs below or up above think. The psychedelic, dark comedy adventure will surely give readers a different perspective on the afterlife.
It's clear that Gabo has had the opportunity to work on and create many well known projects, and now it's paying off. The Life After sounds like a highly entertaining story, with a very interesting concept. I look forward to seeing what it's all about.
