The Fangdellas is a new middle-grade graphic novel by political cartoonist Chris Britt, about the adventures of a multigenerational vampire family whose comfortable castle life is turned upside down when their son hurls insults at a few of the most famous monsters of all time. So we are also talking a class-conscious comedy it seems.
Jill Davis at Hippo Park has bought world rights to The Fangdellas graphic novel, and publication is slated for the autumn of 2026. Chris Britt's agent, Timothy Travaglini at Transatlantic Agency, negotiated the deal.
Chris Britt is an editorial cartoonist and author from Phoenix, Arizona, now living in Tacoma, Washington, and a graduate of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign's College of Fine Arts with a degree in visual arts. Britt has been a cartoonist since 1991, his editorial cartoonist work runs weekly in the Illinois Times and is distributed to more than 200 newspaper clients a week. He published his first book, The Most Perfect Snowman, in October 2016 via HarperCollins.
Hippo Park is a children's imprint of Astra Publishing House, established in early 2020 in New York, by Thinkingdom Media Group, a Beijing-based publishing conglomerate. Founded thirty years ago by a husband-and-wife team of literary agents, the Transatlantic Agency represents more than 800 American, Canadian and international clients, and is headed by Literary Agent and President Samantha Heywood.
The expansion of younger readers graphic novels is fuelling all manner of publishers extending into the comics medium. Right now it seems like an infinite market that is being tapped into, and creating longstanding comic book readers for decades to come. It is not for nothing that kids graphic novels in bookstores are being referred to as the newsstand of the twenty-first century, and the future readers of the medium are being formed and created right here, right now.
