Don't Miss Out On The Reader-Friendly 2014 Boom! Box Mix Tape
It was impossible to miss the Boom! Box 2014 Mix Tape, when I gazed at the shelves at my local comic book store. Its bright yellow cover complete with illustrations of cartoon pizza and cheeseburgers that smile was simply irresistible. Either that, or I was hungry…just kidding. I have to admit, that while I do read a few things from Boom! Studios, I am always eager to explore more of the work that they put out, so the opportunity to pick up something as reader-friendly as this Mix Tape, was perfect.
Editor Shannon Watters writes in the introduction,
This is an anthology for visiting pals you already know, discovering ones you don't yet, and havin' a great friggin' time. You may recognize some of these characters…some of them you may be meeting for the first time. Lean into it, yo. Pour yourself a bowl of cereal, settle into the couch cushions. Press play…we made this just for you with love.
Well who can resist such a charming invitation? Don't mind if I do! Out of all of the comics in the Mix Tape, I was particularly drawn to a few of them. I loved the comic simplicity of Hambourgeois & Chip, and the strange, yet goofy script of Animals Are Pretty Weird, Y'All. But my favorite was without a doubt, A Girl And Her Raptor. Way to make me emotional after reading two pages, Stevenson and Watters! To sum it all up, you should definitely go pick this up. It's a great collection and will expose you to a bunch of cool comics.
