ECCC: Michael Avon Oeming's The Victories And Axe Cop's Dong-Nose

ECCC: Michael Avon Oeming's The Victories And Axe Cop's Dong-NoseJudd Morse writes for Bleeding Cool from ECCC, and collated a few highlights from yesterday's Dark Horse panel.

The Black Beetle, Francesco Francavilla's new book will be featured in an upcoming Dark Horse Presents. Francavilla described the book as a tribute to old pulp heroes with a different spin on the genre. He said the DHP appearance is a good introduction to the title.

Adam Warren said that Volume seven of Empowered will be out on May 3rd. Honest. Warren said he hoped to have a steady stream of guest artist one shots, and that volume eight will resolve the ongoing Spooky storyline.

Ethan Niccolle, the pen behind the genus that is Axe Cop, didn't really have any big news to share, but did point out that on the cover to the latest trade, Axe Cop's nose kind of looks just like a dong.

Jeff Parker and Erica Moen plugged their recently-wrapped web comic that's now coming out in trade, Bucko. Moen described it as a dick and fart joke murder mystery, kind of set in Portland.

Michael Avon Oeming talked about his new series, The Victories, which another panelist described as "the most fucked up book I've ever read." Oeming said The Victories were a product of his anexiety attacks, and even though it's a story revolving around a team of super powered beings, he still sees it as kind of a true fiction story. Oeming said the first storyline focuses on a single character, and if things work out to where there's another storyline, it'll focus on a different character.

Paul Tobin talked about Colder, his new series which centers on a guy who "can enter the insanity of another person." Also, his body temp is constantly ticking down lower and lower, like a deadline. Tobin said he wanted to focus on the tension that builds as the character's temperature ticks down, nearing unsurvivable levels.

Brian Wood's new project is called The Massive. It's a story about the end of the world. "Total collapse of the environment, which leads to a collapse of governments and economies." Wood said the cast would be made up of environmental activists on ships, who were kind of spared from a lot of what happend during Armageddeon. There's the mystery of why this catastrophy happened on one hand, Wood said, and then on the other there's this whole sense of existential doubt and guilt the activists are feeling, seeing as they kind of failed to save the world. Wood said after the three-part prequal that run in Dark Horse Presents #8-10, the main book would begin in June.
