Many comic book readers and commentators have increasingly made their voices heard on the issue of the participation of female creators in the new DCU — and comics as a whole — in recent times.  One dedicated fan took this ongoing dialog to SDCC and used it to help make a difference. Pretty cool.

DC Comics Listens To Batgirl, Makes Changes

At San Diego Comic Con, one thing you couldn't escape from at the DC panels was the issue of gender. Thanks to one woman (known as Kyrax2 on Twitter) dressed as the Stephanie Brown Batgirl who went to all of the panels to ask question, then follow up question, then follow up question, creating a narrative across the show, asking about the lack of female creators in the new DCU and the lack of prominent independent female characters, something snapped. By the the last panel, Dan DiDio seemed visibly frustrated – this was not the way the narrative was meant to go.

Avengers Teaser Footage – Official, High Quality, Spoilery

Rather than release the full Avengers teaser online intact, Paramount and Marvel have decided to take just a bit of it, add this to some of the climax of Captain America and then put that online. So while we've finally got a good-quality look at footage from the super team-up movie to end all super team-up movies (until the next one in 2017 or so), we've got to have the end of Cap spoiled to get at it.

First Review: Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes

The original Planet of the Apes films are not hard sci-fi by any means, but fantasies with rich allegorical value. From the very first reports on Rise of the Apes, (originally Caesar, and now Rise of the Planet of the Apes to hammer the connection home, though, honestly, the chance of anybody missing the links, ahem, are pretty slim indeed) I was writing about how this film seemed set to reinvent the series' mythology within a context of more relatable, real world science. The needle appeared to have swung over to point "20 Minutes Into The Future", way out of the Chuck Heston red zone of intergalactic space missions and time holes.

First Official Stills For Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance is something of a surprising sequel, mainly because the first film didn't exactly take the box office by storm; it barely broke even and received a less-than-warm critical reception. That said, you should never underestimate the appeal of Nicolas Cage riding around on a motorbike with his head on fire, and so a sequel is on its way.
