Iron Man 3 And Superbowl XLVII – Sunday Trending Topics

iron man 3I must admit I'm a bit disappointed that Marvel set up a very clever Superbowl tie-in for Iron Man 3 months ago by naming the shiny new armor of the movie the Mark XLVII to coincide with the 2013 Superbowl of the same roman numerals (and they must have done that on purpose, that'd be a pretty huge coincidence, particularly considering all the fan puzzlement about the big number jump over the previous armors that was expressed as this emerged) —  and then didn't follow up on that aspect of it on the big day.

I laid out a case for what I thought might happen in an email to Brendon last week, and he very wisely waved me off.  Still… I find it hard to believe you pull XLVII out of thin air, given the event's power as a marketing platform. Something went awry, the Iron Man 3 marketing timeline changed or someone unapproved something somewhere along the way there, surely (edit — I see from just-released toy photos that they've dropped the "V" and changed Mark XLVII to Mark XLII, so it would seem it's possible that some plans changed there).
